Questions people ask

How do I get Orviah?

Orviah is testing through TestFlight on iPhone and iPad, and needs iOS 26 or iPadOS 26. Ask for an invitation with your name and email, and we'll send one when there is room.

Do I need an account?

No. You can keep Orviah on one device without signing in; your life then lives only on that device, with no backup. Sign in with Apple to turn on private backup and to use the same life on your iPhone and iPad.

What is the recovery code, and what if I lose it?

When you turn private backup on, Orviah seals your life with a key kept in your device's Keychain and your iCloud Keychain, and shows you that key once as a 52-character recovery code. A new iPhone on the same Apple ID normally opens your backup through iCloud Keychain; the code is the other way in, for when that cannot help. Keep it where you keep your passport.

We do not have a copy. If you lose every device and the code, your backup cannot be opened by anyone, including us. You would start fresh.

Moving to a new iPhone or iPad

Install Orviah and sign in with Apple. If iCloud Keychain is on for the same Apple ID, your sealed life opens by itself. Otherwise enter your recovery code from Settings → Privacy & security on your other device. Connected mail and calendar accounts need signing in to again on the new device; their names come across with your life.

Is my information really encrypted?

Yes. Your life is a single file encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key made on your device, and every picture and voice note is sealed the same way. The backup on our servers is ciphertext sealed with a separate key we never see. The privacy policy says exactly what reaches our servers and what does not.

What does Orviah's AI get to see?

One request per turn: your words and the parts of your life that matter for them, plus the emails or calendar events you asked about and any picture you chose to show it. The request is answered and deleted. Nothing is kept server-side and nothing is used to train models. Details are in the privacy policy.

Why does Orviah ask for Gmail permissions, and what does it do with them?

To read the emails you ask about, draft replies you approve, send only the one you tap Send on, and tidy your mailbox when you ask. The exact permissions and what each one allows are on the page Google mail and calendar in Orviah. Orviah never deletes mail permanently and never sets up forwarding.

How do I disconnect Google, or stop Orviah reading my mail?

Settings → Accounts & connections → the account → Remove. Orviah forgets the account on every device and nothing in your mailbox is touched. You can also remove Orviah's access from your Google Account's third-party access page.

Can I connect Outlook or Microsoft 365?

Not yet. The connection is built but not switched on in the beta. It will arrive with the same rules as Google: read what you ask about, write only when you ask, send only when you tap Send.

Orviah says its AI is unavailable or took too long. What now?

Orviah's AI runs through a processing service with a fair-use allowance; when it is used up, signed out, or slow, the app says so in words and nothing in your life changes. Try again a little later. Your life is still fully visible and editable by hand in the meantime. If it persists, send a note from About & support.

The microphone does not work.

Orviah needs the microphone and speech recognition permissions. Open the iPhone's Settings app → Orviah and allow both; iOS restarts Orviah and you come straight back. Listening pauses when you leave the app, take a call, or another app takes the microphone, and never resumes by itself. You can always type instead.

Can I use Siri?

"Tell Orviah…" captures what you say, even from a locked phone, and only ever adds things. "Ask Orviah…" answers a question after you unlock, and changes nothing. "Talk to Orviah" opens the app listening. The phrases stay "Orviah" whatever you have named your assistant, because Siri only knows an app by its name.

What are shared spaces, and what can they do today?

A space is a room several people are in: you create one, invite people by link or code, and see who is in it. Rooms are sealed on your devices; our servers know who is in a space with whom and never what is in it. Shared to-dos, notes and photos inside rooms are being built.

Does Orviah do repeating reminders?

Not yet. A reminder fires once at the time you asked; Orviah says so plainly if you ask for a habit, and keeps it as a note or a single reminder.

How do I delete my account and everything with it?

Settings → Delete your Orviah account. It removes your account, your sealed backup and attachments, and your memberships of shared spaces, for good. If you own a shared space with other people in it, hand it over or delete it first; Orviah will tell you which. If you would rather we did it, email us from the address on your account.

How do I report a security problem?

Email support@orviah.app with "Security" in the subject. We read those first.
